“We are here for one purpose and one purpose only: To help others. And to the extent that we help others, is the extent of our own happiness.”

In December 1998, I had several in-depth discussions with my (now former) spouse on how to help society by using personal “tithing” money. Although occasionally giving to churches in need, I enjoy coming up with new and exciting ways to give money away, which would be used immediately and properly.
There are many ways to give money away, one is to trust someone else who has proven that they will properly distribute the funds entrusted to them. Warren Buffett trusts Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to use his donation of tens of billions of dollars effectively. – Warren has done his research.
Timothy Ferriss (Author of the Four Hour Work Week) is another philanthropist who has also done his research and is backing it with his charitable contributions.
I challenge others like you to think more on immediate and local impact. All the various ALKO Companies donate a full 10% or more of corporate income. Much of those donations, along with my own personal contributions, go to the prevention of drug and alcohol abuse right here in the U.S.A. Drug and alcohol abuse is the one of the most prevalent destructive forces that cause so much distress in society today. It affects each one of us on a daily basis and has been the downfall of so many. Most all crimes, family breakups, and all types of personal mistreatment, violence, neglect, exploitation and cruelty are directly caused by alcohol and drug abuse. What are you passionate about? Wherever you feel help is needed, give your time, efforts, and money to be part of the solution to improving our world.
I have set up separate charitable accounts so that my “donations” of money are anonymous. My friends, associates and colleagues come up with great ideas, and then investigate them intensely as to how the money will be used.
In our busy lives, we also squeeze out personal time for charitable work also. For example: I don’t hand over cash to the homeless, they receive food. When witnessing well-behaved kids in a restaurant while other kids are wildly running around, they and their parents are rewarded with a free dinner (anonymously through the waitresses). I encourage you to be creative in your giving as well.
Belonging to charitable organizations such as the local Lions club, Rotary clubs, church groups, and many others are excellent ways to volunteer your time and efforts to worthy causes. Involvement with these organizations allows you to directly participate in helping others, which in turn brings a whole other benefit to you and your soul.
Although it is a good starting place and I have done it much of my life, I do not believe that you must give (tithe) ten percent (as in the old Biblical Mosaic law). However, I now prefer to follow New Testament Bible teachings to give from your heart (2 Corinthians 9:7), when Jesus said: “So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity: for God loves a cheerful giver.” Please note that if you follow this biblical quote you don’t even have to give the ten percent, but will you then be a cheerful giver? My interpretation of this as giving a minimum of ten percent although we are not forced to give. How about setting a goal in your future to be able to “reverse tithe” – give 90% and live off only 10%. If you learn from the educational materials my companies provide, you should be able to live abundantly, allowing you to more generously contribute.
Start now with whatever amount that you make. Ten percent – right off the top. As a corporation or business entity, I suggest of net profits (after expenses) and as an individual person I suggest of total gross income (before deductions). Remember this is a minimum. Once you begin, you will experience sensations you could never imagine.
Simply by the fact that you are able to be reading this, you are rich enough to start giving – today. The freedom of giving, especially anonymously, is invigorating!
Please join me in loving and helping others so that you can experience and enjoy a happier life while in this human form.
